Judi Werner

Judi combines lapidary skills with an artisan’s eye in her handcrafted jewelry. Many of the cabochons and jewels discovered as she travels become a part of these beautiful pendants, rings, and bracelets

Judi Werner focused her education on Computer Technology rather than the arts. It turns out that corralling all those bites and bytes over the years to make programs that people can use in their business was very creative work, with a lot of logical thinking and problem solving thrown in. It was a very useful foundation for this science-oriented artisan.

Many years ago Judi started collecting rocks on her vacations. As that box of rocks grew, it was only logical to Judi that she study lapidary, the art of cutting and tumbling rocks. The box of rocks grew smaller as they were cut into cabochons. But then the cabochon collection grew larger. Twelve years ago she decided to put her cabochons and creativity to use crafting jewelry.

Judi began her next area of ‘research’ through a series of jewelry classes. With teacher encouragement and lab availability she has progressed from simple cabochon mounting to more elaborate creations. She now incorporates fabrication work and casting in her pieces, as well as beads. These creations are presented to you at the High Street Gallery.

Her watches here are both functional and whimsical. Some are created of cloisonné beads of various groupings: clowns, stars, fish, and butterflies. Some are created with pearls. And yet others are totally whimsical, with watches that tell no time but suggest ‘Margarita time’.

Judi’s beaded necklaces are simple, yet complex. Here is where her fondness for logic again comes into play with a focus on color theory. Three strands are twisted in different places. Colors are muted and hued to various color palettes. A special bead is placed just so – to compliment and highlight the strand.

In other of Judi Werner’s creations you will still find the cabochons and other jewels she finds in her travels mounted on pendants, rings, and bracelets using gold and sterling silver. Enjoy!
