Marcia Nelson
Marcia chose stained glass as her art because it combined a number of skills she’s been honing for years. She loves putting things together like a puzzle, and stained glass can be put together in many different ways with the same pieces or different colors, and using different techniques in the construction. She tells the story of first becoming aware of really seeing your world of color and texture. She and a friend were at the top of the fire tower in Peninsula State Park and he said “just look at all those wonderful shades of green in the trees.” Shades of green – isn’t green, well, green? Once she ‘looked’ it was obvious there were many different shades and textures in the trees from near and across the water. From this, she has become more aware and sensitive of the world around her. With her imagination, she conjures up how she might create something in glass that would be an interesting representation what she sees around her. Some pieces turn out rather intriguing, some are just really neat, some are soft and pretty, some are unexpected as they change throughout the development process – and some end up in the garage as the result of a good learning process. Enjoy the wonderful colors, the unique textures, the nontraditional designs. Marcia advocate stained glass outside, year round as well as the traditional display in windows. Let the light shining through the glass touch your mood and the ambiance of your space.
