As I work, the process of creating art is a balancing act; working with a medium to gain some understanding and proficiency in using it on the one hand, creating and expressing oneself on the other.
Working with watercolor is both a joy and a challenge. The challenge comes in the many layering of pigments resulting in intense, glowing colors. The joy comes when things develop almost of their own accord, yet having the knowledge that those results reflect an inner personal energy.
As my art work develops, it is both useful and fulfilling to use different mediums to create different effects. While I work mostly with watercolor, I find graphite as well as ink with brush or pen equally satisfying, especially when doing fine-line or detailed work.
My hope is that the viewer of one of my pieces can be drawn into it by the color, the lines and the illusion of depth; much as I get drawn in as I am creating it.
